Melanie Berkowitz, LMSW
The fact that you’ve made it here is brave and bold. I believe that we cannot grow, or face our challenges, alone. Holding a stance of curiosity and non-judgment, we’ll collaborate to reduce your struggle and help you to connect to your unique gifts. Like any relationship, ours requires trust. I am committed to building it with you through respect, compassion, honesty, and humor.
I have advanced training in Gestalt, relational therapy, somatic studies, and expressive arts. I combine traditional ‘talk’ therapy with attention to the body. By attending to breath, patterns of muscular holding, and movements, we can increase your awareness and unlock your natural ability to heal. I will support you in exploring old patterns that—while once vital to your survival and coping—may no longer serve you today. We will experiment with new solutions and expand the range of possibilities available to you.
I specialize in working with depression, post-traumatic stress, eating disorders, anxiety, LGBTQIA+ issues, emerging adults, and life transitions. I also understand that political and cultural realities have profound psychological impacts. My practice is inclusive and welcomes individuals of all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, abilities, genders, and sexual identities. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Silberman School of Social Work Hunter College and a BA from Brown University.
